International English for Curriculum Support
Subject Description
Teacher in Charge:
This is a multi-level class for students from Year 9 to Year 13 who are using English as a Second Language. It is a self-study class supervised by an ESOL teacher. Students may have this on their timetable between 1 to 5 times a week, depending on their level of English and their need for curriculum support.
Students are encouraged to ask for support across all their curriculum subjects in IECS, including for IELTS if they need to take this international assessment. Access will be given to digital devices and digital tools to support their learning. No formal assessment opportunities are offered in IECS, but students can study for any curriculum class they are timetabled for at college or they are taking as an NCEA subject.
Required Prior Learning
Students will be placed in this class if they need extra support with English to achieve their NCEA goals or if they need general support to develop their English Language skills. Students need to speak to the ESOL staff before they are placed in this class.
