This course will enable students to earn credits towards NCEA L2 and the New Zealand Certificate of Tourism (L2). 

Students will gain an understanding of the way that the tourism industry operates, a knowledge of the most desirable world and NZ tourism destinations and an understanding the environmental, social and cultural impacts that tourism has on particular communities. NB:To gain the New Zealand Certificate students must complete all standards in the Year 12 and 13 courses.

The course offers opportunities for students to experience tourism in New Zealand, with various field trips to key tourist attractions and activities, such as White Water Rafting, Skyline Luging, Te Puia, Zorbing, Black Water Rafting and Waitomo Caves.  These trips are optional with all additional costs to be advised before departure.

The course will be assessed to the L2 Tourism Unit Standards. All standards are internally assessed using the “open book” method. Students will have the opportunity to gain up to 26 credits.
