Gateway builds the links between school and business and allows schools to offer structured workplace learning opportunities for senior students. The programme develops students’vocational skills while still at school. Students able to get first-hand experience of what it is like in the workforce, and also begin to gain the qualifications needed in today’s job market.
Students are required to complete a work placement which will be organised in conjunction with the Gateway Work Placement coordinator.
This course will be assessed to a selection of Core Unit Standards and Pre-Trade related Unit Standards; each student will have an individual learning programme. Each student will have the opportunity to complete Level 2 or 3 standards bought it via Industry Training Organisations; these could be courses such as First Aid, Forklift, Health and Safety - dependent on the Industry area, students are interested in.
Required Prior Learning
Students apply for entry and will be interviewed to decide suitability. Suitability will be based on the following:
- Attendance record
- Pastoral record
- Motivation to complete work placement
- General attitude
