L3 Drama
Subject Description
Teacher in Charge: Ms M. Rowe.
This course provides students with an opportunity to study all aspects of Drama.The ability to devise, script and perform their own work forms a central part of the course. Studying the Theatre of Politics or ‘Laban’ and play scripts relevant to this genre is also a focus.
Public performance work forms an integral part of the course. Students will be required to complete written tasks alongside their practical projects.
This course will be assessed to 5 internal Achievement Standards, totalling 23 credits. Students may also be entered for an external standard offering 4 credits. Drama is a university approved subject. Scholarship Drama is also available.

Term 1
Perform a scripted extract, using Drama Techniques
Devise a performance to realize an intention, using Drama Elements and Conventions
Term 2
Study and perform in the style of Theater of Politics/Laban
Term 3
Perform in a significant production in front of a live audience

Required Prior Learning
Entry is subject to approval by the HOD. Students who have studied Drama at NCEA L2 will be advantaged.
Subject Costs
NB: Approx $100 may be required during the year to pay for various theatre trips (NOT COMPULSORY).
Pathway
Drama has huge value as an educational tool. It serves to improve students' life skills (communication, cooperation, self expression, confidence, creativity, problem solving) as well as their Drama knowledge. Increasingly in our technology driven world, these skills are becoming lost. Many workplaces are expressing a need for their work force to have greater inter personal skills. Drama is a proven way of encouraging these qualities. It is a university approved subject, therefore those wishing to continue on an academic pathway are catered for.
