This course is an introduction to Physical and Human Geography. A range of topics will be explored throughout the year including volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, and cyclones, as well as contemporary, human issues such as sustainability, urbanisation, crime, and tourism. Students will establish a foundational understanding of the world they live in as they explore the dynamic relationship between people and places. Important geographic skills will be developed including critical thinking, cartographic skills, and report writing in this literacy rich subject.
In Geography, student's learning is supported with both real world and virtual field trips.
A course in Geography can lead on to future studies in both the Humanities and Sciences in the senior school and at a tertiary level.
Required Prior Learning
Entry is open, but subject to approval by the HOD and dependent on proven performance in Year 10 Social Studies.
Subject Costs
Field trip to the Waitomo Caves: 1 day. Approx $120
